Patient Service Representative/Surgical Scheduler

Surgical Scheduler is a unique position that varies daily based on the clinical or clerical staffing needs of the practice. Duties often include supporting the physicians and/or mid-level providers in the practice with clinical activities and direct patient care as well as assisting patients and staff with the administrative and clerical needs of the practice.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Schedule surgical procedures in OR and responsible for making sure everything is obtained for scheduled procedure

Back up to prior authorization for surgeries

Check in patients upon arrival

Verify/Update patient demographics

Obtain & Scan insurance cards; verify insurance eligibility

Obtain signatures on required forms (HIPAA, etc.).

Collect outstanding balances and co-pays

Assist with additional scheduling such as labs, x-rays, procedures or testing; send orders.

Take messages or triage phone calls

Schedule patient appointments

Maintain provider schedule utilization

Check out patient

Responsible for daily cash out

Scrub provider schedules, ensure patients are re scheduled when provider is out on PTO, OR time is released, providers are not double booked

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent customer service and problem solving ability

Ability to think through potential solutions to issues

Good time management and prioritization skills

Good computer skills - Epic and Microsoft Office are utilized

Education and Training:

High School diploma or equivalent

Previous medical office experience preferred

College level training/education in a healthcare support field preferred

Previous EMR use/training helpful

Physical requirements:

Sitting-- 90%

Standing-- 10%

Reaching-- 50%

Bending-- 20%

Lifting-- must be able to lift 25 lb.

Location and Travel Requirements:

Onsite; Cayuga Wellness Center - 310 Taughannock Blvd. 4th Floor Ithaca, NY. 14850

Hours; 8:00am - 4:30pm

Compensation Disclosure:

18.50 - $23.00/hr
