Summary:
The Assistant Hospital Director provides comprehensive support to the Hospital Director in overseeing clinical operations, regulatory compliance, staff coordination, and performance improvement initiatives. This position ensures operational excellence, supports Joint Commission compliance, and promotes a culture of continuous quality improvement across hospital functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight- Assist in ensuring adherence to professional standards and federal/state regulations, including Joint Commission accreditation requirements. Provide interpretation and guidance to staff on evolving compliance matters.
Performance Improvement & Quality Management- Lead and support performance improvement initiatives using data-driven methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma). Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient care, safety, and organizational efficiency. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
Administrative and Operational Support- Aid in daily hospital operations including staff scheduling, onboarding, and coordination. Assist in the preparation of budgets, reports, and reconciliations.
Training and Staff Development- Coordinate and support internal training efforts, including onboarding and in-service planning. Provide education on quality improvement methodologies and Joint Commission standards.
Documentation & Data Analysis- Ensure accuracy of documentation in collaboration with medical records staff. Collect and analyze operational data to identify trends and support decision-making.
Internal and External Communication- Serve as a liaison between hospital departments, leadership, and accreditation bodies. Communicate quality improvement strategies and results.
Other tasks as delegated by the Hospital Director
Special Attributes: Minimal supervision regarding use of time, able to prioritize work assignments. Must possess a vast knowledge base of mental health and substance abuse disorders and vigor to continue the learning process. Ability to communicate effectively with professionals and clients/families. Ability to make sound decisions in emergencies.
Supervisory Responsibilities: May assist in coordination of staff activities and has limited direct supervisory responsibilities and may act as hospital administrator in the absence of the administrator.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, or related field required, MBA or other business degree Master’s degree preferred. Work history of three plus years in healthcare operations, quality management, or performance improvement. Must have administrative supervisory history of no less than two years. Will consider other non-licensable degrees with commensurate work experience and skill, including BSN or RN. Inpatient behavioral health experience preferred but not required.
