Overview
+ Medical Director will maintain an active clinical role within the Acute Rehabilitation Unit
+ Expected to provide on-site clinical coverage approximately 3 weeks per month, unless on approved vacation
+ One week per month designated for administrative responsibilities, program development, and leadership activities
+ Participates in call coverage as required by the program
+ Strong leadership and physician engagement skills

Responsibilities
+ Provide medical leadership and oversight of the Acute Rehabilitation Unit ( ARU )
+ Direct patient care activities including admissions, continued stays, and discharge planning in accordance with IRF criteria
+ Lead interdisciplinary team conferences to coordinate comprehensive rehabilitation care
+ Develop and implement clinical protocols, pathways, and quality improvement initiatives
+ Ensure compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services ( CMS ), The Joint Commission, and all applicable regulations
+ Collaborate with hospital leadership to drive program growth and operational efficiency
+ Monitor and improve key metrics such as length of stay, functional outcomes, and readmission rates
+ Oversee utilization management, documentation accuracy, and medical necessity reviews
+ Recruit, mentor, and supervise rehabilitation physicians and advanced practice providers
Qualifications
+ MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
+ Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) preferred
+ Active, unrestricted Maine medical license (or ability to obtain)
+ Minimum 3-5 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience
+ Prior leadership experience strongly preferred
+ Working knowledge of IRF - PAI , CMS guidelines, and interdisciplinary rehab models
