Job Title: Associate Director of Nursing - Corrections Healthcare Unit Department: James | Oncology Nursing Administration

Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centers mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, education, teaching, and research. The Associate Director (AD) of Nursing leads a team that includes Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers while collaborating with clinical specialists, educators and consultants with the overarching goal of extending care to the inmate patient population. With oversight of multiple units across hospitals, the AD establishes an environment that supports the professional practice of nursing as essential and integral to patient care. In addition, the AD assumes responsibility for determining the vision and direction for the respective area/department(s) with a span of oversight of 300-500 FTEs, determining the strategic and operational plans to support the vision of the department(s) and the Medical Center, operationalizing the plans, and evaluating and or revising the plan as needed. This AD will work across the continuum of care to ensure the inmate patient population receives high quality patient centric care. They will work collaboratively within the organization and external to the organization namely with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections and Franklin Medical Center.

Position Summary

The Associate Director is key in operationalizing the Medical Centers mission, values and goals and creates an environment that supports the nursing professional practice model. The AD is a role model for transformational leadership and is responsible for managing the operations, evaluating manager and employee performance, demonstrating customer satisfaction (internal and external), and strategic and operational planning and program development. The associate director serves as a leader and mentor both within the department and throughout OSUWMC.

The AD is responsible for: integrating the departments services with Medical Center primary functions; coordinating and integrating services within the department and with other departments; develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the departments services; recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide the departments services; continuously assess and improve the departments performance; maintain appropriate quality control programs; provide for orientation, professional development, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department; recommend sufficient space and other resources required by the department; participate in the selection of outside services when necessary; and ensure compliance with appropriate patient care and business practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in nursing required. Masters in nursing or related field is required. Current Ohio RN license. Three years clinical experience required with leadership and management three years experience required. Professional certification in Nursing Administration or clinical practice is desired with an expectation of attainment within 1 year of hire.
