Director, System Ambulatory Laboratory Operations

HealthPartners is hiring a Director, Ambulatory Laboratory Operations. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Medical Laboratory Services the System Director of Ambulatory Laboratories provides system-wide leadership and management for HealthPartners Medical Group Clinics and Park Nicollet Clinics laboratory operations, HealthPartners Central Lab, and direct support of our Valley, Hutchinson and Olivia clinics in collaboration with the Laboratory Medical Directors and with the support of the Senior Director Medical Laboratory Services. Assures laboratory services are provided within professional, regulatory, and accrediting body standards, including but not limited to College of American Pathologists. Creates a focus on continuous service improvement and patient experience in the clinics, to better meet patient and family needs. Identifies operations and processes within the laboratory needing continuous quality improvement and uses quality methods appropriately, including lean, six sigma, and PDSA. Develops and achieves strategic laboratory goals and objectives as defined on the laboratory system annual plan. Collaborates with other leaders and departments in coordinating services for patients and families. Maintains positive work relationship with pathologists and other physicians of the medical staff. Leads the enculturation of standardized ambulatory laboratory practices. Participate as a leader and as an ambulatory administrative team member.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related laboratory field.
  • At least eight years of significant management experience within the laboratory field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skill in human relations, time management, analytical skills, and oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated skills in budget forecasting, development, and monitoring, and in the planning process.

  • Extensive, successful healthcare education experience
  • Demonstrated success as a collaborative change agent and positive attitude to change
  • Demonstrated successful mentoring of and role modeling for staff
  • Familiar with external regulatory standards (e.g. College of American Pathologist, COLA, CMS Conditions of Participation, OSHA)
  • Demonstrated professional learning and growth through membership in professional organizations and continuing education courses
  • Ability to navigate across multiple sites and divisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

  • Master's degree in laboratory science, health administration or business-related field

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

  • ASCP, NCA or AMT certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the supervision of staff, including having the authority to hire, transfer, lay off, promote, discipline and discharge, train, reward and review performance of employees. Ensures compliance to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and monitors specific service, quality, and financial goals for the ambulatory laboratories within the parameters established by the corporation; identifies opportunities for improvement and develops action plans within their assigned teams.
  • Assures compliance with company policies and procedures, laboratory billing and coding, labor relations contracts and regulatory agencies.
  • Assures development, updating and compliance of ambulatory specific policies and procedures.
  • Supports and helps define and hold teams accountable to the laboratory quality and annual plan.
  • Models and sets expectations for patient experience to meet or exceed system goals.
  • Assures successful implementation of care group initiatives. Approves implementation of laboratory specific projects.
  • Actively partners with colleagues across the enterprise to operate as a system and supports, executes and carries out tactical goals for the laboratory annual plan.
  • Oversees the development of the annual operational and capital ambulatory lab budgets in cooperation with the Senior Director of Medical Laboratory Services.
  • Allocates and authorizes expenditures.
  • Has financial accountability for the clinic laboratories and Central lab in conjunction with the Senior Director of Medical Laboratory Services.
  • Oversees management of facilities.
  • Facilitates the creation of an environment/culture within our laboratories consistent with the values of HealthPartners.
  • Determine community relationships, which enhance the image of the clinics and HP.
  • Directs promotional and outreach opportunities to enhance the strategic growth in laboratory services.
  • Uses data for decision-making and participates in the development of data collection systems required to administer clinic operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory senior leadership.
