Clinical Director-Behavioral Health

Position Summary:

The Clinical Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for the management of the Behavioral Health provider staff, as well as center-wide coordination of the delivery of professional behavioral health care, facilitation of the behavioral health care review process, and ongoing development of the Behavioral Health program. The director oversees and facilitates the assurance that the behavioral health program's clinical measures are being met. Provide direct behavioral services per provider job description.

Position-Specific Competencies/Essential Functions/Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In addition to the provider job description, the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health is accountable for and has the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Assist in the recruitment, screening and recommendation of behavioral health personnel for employment.
  • Participate in annual performance appraisals of the behavioral health providers and behavioral health staff.
  • Responsible for the provision of on-call coverage and coordinates the schedules of behavioral health staff, as to special activities, vacations, and other leaves.
  • Assist MHSI Senior Leadership with the identification of the community's behavioral health needs and care gaps.
  • Oversees behavioral health chart audit, peer review and other clinical behavioral health care review processes in coordination with Quality Improvement Manager.
  • Along with Behavioral Health Clinic Manager, responsible for the investigation of all patient complaints/grievances and report findings to the interdisciplinary Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.
  • Responsible for coordinating ongoing plans of behavioral health in-service training and ensures that the behavioral health personnel are participating in continuing education activities.
  • Develop plans for provider's involvement in community service activities designed to enhance public awareness of health issues or increase awareness of the behavioral health services available through the centers.
  • Assure behavioral health policies and protocols are consistent between center sites and in alignment with MHSI organizational policies and procedures.
  • Develop behavioral health consultative and referral linkage arrangements with local behavioral health providers, which reflect patient care needs and enhance capacity of behavioral health providers.
  • Assure the behavioral health program in integrated with the primary care and specialty clinics within Milwaukee Health Services, Inc.
  • Assist in grant writing or program development along with required reporting for funding opportunities as requested by MHSI and/or in collaboration with community partners.
  • Assist in accurate and timely behavioral health department billing procedures, which includes working with MHSI Finance Department to coordinate upgrades and implementation of new insurance programs.
  • Attend meetings and any assigned committees, as assigned.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as may be assigned.

Position Requirements

Education:

Psychiatrist, Psychologist, or Advanced Practice Provider, or Professional in a closely related field who is licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin with no restrictions or limitations when practicing within the scope of their license. Physicians and Psychologists must have graduated a hold a degree from an accredited college or university and will have completed a residency in psychiatry. Other professionals in a closely related field will have obtained a graduate degree and will have completed all applicable supervisory practice requirements. 3000 hours of supervised clinical post-graduate degree experience including at least 1000 hours of face-to-face contact. Two-five years progressively responsible management experience and supervision of clinical staff supervision preferred.

Experience:

Previous experience should be from a clinic or private practice setting, as well as previous supervisory experience, a must.

Expertise:

Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy towards patients. Able to develop teaching and counseling sessions, as needed. Must be able to adapt to changing situations and circumstances. Must be willing and able to assume and delegate the needs of clinic patients, as a member of the health care team.

Language:

Comprehend and use basis language either written or spoken to communicate information and ideals.
