What You Will Be Doing:
The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is seeking an experienced and mission driven Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as a key member of the hospitals C Suite leadership team. This executive role is responsible for hospital operations, regulatory compliance, emergency management, and the systems that support safe, effective psychiatric care for Alaskans.
The COO translates strategic priorities into operational systems that improve patient care, enhance safety, and ensure regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include:
Improving clinical outcomes and strengthening patient and staff safety
Streamlining and standardizing processes to support daily operations
Leading organizational change and continuous improvement efforts
Ensuring compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and Alaska licensing requirements
Overseeing contracted services and required performance evaluations
Leading emergency management and disaster preparedness initiatives
Directing building management, environmental services, and assigned personnel
Collaborating with clinical and administrative leaders to support safe, effective operations
Serving as APIs liaison with DFCS units and state agencies on facility and operational matters
The COO reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is an active member of API and DFCS leadership.

Masters degree (e.g., MHA, MBA)

35 years of operational leadership experience in a hospital, healthcare, institutional, or public-sector setting
At least 3 years of supervisory experience
Bachelors degree in healthcare administration, public administration, business, or a related field.
This position is exempt from classified service. Occasional travel may be required.
