Overview

Administers, directs, and coordinates activies within assigned service areas, and is responsible for the recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures in these areas and for keeping the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) informed of both progress and potential problems. The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial leadership of perioperative services, including the operating room, pre-operative, post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), sterile processing, and related procedural areas. This role ensures efficient, high-quality, and compliant surgical operations through collaboration with clinical leadership, including nurse managers, anesthesia providers, and physicians.

Responsibilities

Although a Registered Nurse (RN) license is prefered, this position does not require a Registered Nurse (RN) license but requires strong healthcare perioperative operations experience and the ability to lead multidisciplinary clinical teams. Oversees daily oeprations of surgical services, ensuring optimal patient flow, and case scheduling, and resource utilization. The Director of Surgical Services works closely together Surgical Nursing Leaders (e.g., Surgical Services Nurse Assistant Director/Operations Manager) to maintain safe, high-qiality patient care delivery. The Director of Surgical Services monitors surgical volumes, block utilization, turnover times, throughput metrics, and coordinates with the Medical Staff Office for privileges and proctoring. The Director is responsible for the direction and evaluation of patient care delivery. The Director of Surgical Services maintans operational aspects of the patient care unit in collaboration with other service areas.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or related field required.

2. Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, or similar) preferred.

3. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in surgical services, perioperative services, or hospital operations.

4. Demonstrated experience managing complex healthcare operations and multidisciplinary teams.

5. Experience with surgical throughput, budgeting, and performance improvement initiatives required.

6. Demonstrated leadership abilities; able to work under stressful situations.

7. Possesses both good oral and written communication skills.

8. Demonstrated interpersonal relationships in a manner which enhances communication, promotes conflict resolution, and facilitates staff development.

9. Skills and knowledge to sustain and evaluate clinical competence in aring for the speciofic age and type of patient population served.
