Director Health Care Accounting
PURPOSE
Develop and lead an organization of 15+ positions that oversees and executes the financial statement reporting for all North America (USA & Canada) Health Care legal entities, including Pharma and Consumer Health, and all accounting business partner activities for NA PH & CH functions, with a special focus on supporting the divisions in the area of Sales and Sales adjustments; Act as a bridge between the PH and CH divisions and the accounting organization, serving as a business advisor, consultant and integrator of the total business view; Use accounting judgment to provide guidance to significant business decisions, deliver regular business-related support, and ensure the overall integration of accounting in key projects.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Director Health Care Accounting, are to:
Ensure proper implementation of globally defined group accounting standards, best practices and processes across North America Health Care legal entities;
Ensure appropriate financial statement presentation of complex accounting transactions across General Ledger, Asset Accounting, Management Accounting and Reporting, and other relevant accounting areas;
Ensure timely and accurate reporting of BKA/IFRS-compliant financial data for all in-scope legal entities within North America;
Act as a strategic business partner to the divisions by providing ex ante insights on compliant accounting treatments of business and other transactions, applying sound accounting judgment and comprehensive business knowledge;
Manage major accounting topics (e.g., impairments, major and material contracts, legal cases, acquired goodwill and intangible assets) to ensure IFRS-compliant treatment in close cooperation with global and regional stakeholders;
Support and consult divisional functions on Balance Sheet and P&L topics with special focus on EBITDA effects, risks and opportunities, and identify and discuss required postings with non-accounting stakeholders;
Provide insight and support for commercial decisions and Gross-to-Net relevant business transactions and reporting, including contract and program reviews and cross-functional networking;
Consult and actively support local business functions on M&A, new business models (e.g., sales, supply, in-/out-licensing, risk and profit sharing, tolling agreements), strategy and key projects;
Provide guidance on accounting treatment of financial instruments (e.g., embedded derivatives, hidden leases, take-or-pay arrangements) and actively engage with arm's length legal entities (e.g., AskBio, BlueRock, Vividion) to understand emerging issues, new business models and contracts and provide adequate accounting support and advice;
Represent North America Accounting with global accounting partners, ensuring strong partnership and leadership on accounting treatment of NA division-related topics;
Lead, develop and inspire an expert accounting organization in country, fostering collaboration with GBS Finance to act as one team and balancing critical business partnering with professional independence and governance;
Ensure complete and accurate financial statements while supporting internal (including ICS) and external audits and coordinating follow-up of results with the Head of Accounting and other relevant business functions in the local organization.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
Prior working experience in the accounting area of a Fortune Global 200 company;
Within the above experience, at least 6 years of dynamic people leadership with a demonstrated ability to attract and develop talent and build effective, high-performing teams;
Thorough and profound knowledge of divisional business setup, including specialized knowledge of requirements for the Life Science industry and financial policies imposed by GAAP/IFRS;
Proven experience collaborating with and influencing senior international leadership teams;
Very strong interpersonal, communication, consultative, influencing and presentation skills, with the ability to gather insights across divisions and effectively present to senior management at Board level;
Ability and comfort to communicate effectively with nonfinancial managers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a relevant discipline with 12+ years of progressive accounting/finance and leadership experience;
CPA and MBA or CMA;
Public accounting and internal audit experience.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $170,720.00 - $256,080.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
