This position will ensure optimization of laboratory revenue and reimbursement through effective work queue management and comprehensive vendor invoice reconciliation. The role is responsible for executing all charge related functions for the Network laboratories, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of billing activity. Responsibilities include reviewing and validating charges in accordance with established charging policies, regulatory requirements, and payer guidelines, supported by appropriate documentation within the patient medical record. This position serves as a key control point to mitigate revenue leakage, support compliance, and improve overall financial performance of the laboratory network.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage laboratory billing work queues to ensure timely, accurate, and complete charge capture across all Network laboratories.
Performs charge reconciliation for the assigned laboratory department(s). Review and balance charge reconciliation report each day for accuracy.
Perform endtoend charge review, validation, and reconciliation in accordance with established charging policies, regulatory requirements, and payer guidelines.
Ensures that all sendout laboratory tests have a finalized result documented in the patient chart and a corresponding billable charge.
Reconcile laboratory vendor invoices against performed services and contractual terms to ensure appropriate billing, reimbursement, and cost recovery.
Review patient medical records and supporting documentation to substantiate charges and resolve discrepancies prior to claim submission.
Identify, investigate, and correct charging errors, omissions, and variances to prevent revenue leakage and reduce denials.
Collaborate with laboratory operations, revenue cycle, compliance, and vendor partners to resolve charge and reimbursement issues.
Monitor trends in charge capture reimbursement outcomes; escalate systemic issues.
Support audits, compliance reviews, and payer inquiries by providing documentation, analysis, and corrective followup as needed.
Maintain current knowledge of laboratory billing regulations, coding standards, payer requirements, and internal policies.
Functions as the Epic (EHR) subject matter expert for laboratory billing and revenue reconciliation processes
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance revenue cycle efficiency, accuracy, and financial performance.
Prepare routine and ad hoc reports related to charge activity, reconciliation outcomes, and revenue impact for leadership review.
Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to 8 hours per day, 3 hours at a time. Consistent use of hands and fingers for typing, telephone, data entry, etc. Occasional twisting and turning. Uses upper extremities to lift and carry up to 10 pounds. Stoops, bends and reaches above shoulder level to retrieve files. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision. Visual monotony when reading reports and viewing computer screen.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: clinical laboratory and/or charge entry experience
Preferred: Associates/Bachelor's; Epic Beaker experience
