The Vice President of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for advancing high-quality clinical care, driving nursing excellence, and elevating the overall patient and family experience across the organization. This role partners with executive leadership to align nursing and patient experience strategies with organizational priorities, supports Burke's Magnet journey, and ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and evidence-based care. The CNO is accountable for nursing performance outcomes, workforce strategy, regulatory compliance, and service excellence, fostering an environment that reflects Burke's C.A.R.E.S. philosophy. Strategic & Operational Leadership Develops and executes a comprehensive nursing and patient experience strategy aligned with Burke Rehabilitation's mission, vision, and strategic priorities Provides executive oversight of the Patient Experience function, including leadership, structure, and program development Partners with executive leadership to drive organizational initiatives and system integration efforts Leads innovation in care delivery models to enhance quality, efficiency, patient outcomes, and experience Establishes and optimizes staffing models to ensure safe, effective, and efficient nursing care delivery Quality, Safety & Regulatory Excellence Accountable for nursing quality outcomes and patient experience performance, including publicly reported metrics and benchmarking programs Ensures continuous regulatory readiness and compliance with TJC, CARF, NYSDOH, and other applicable agencies Leads performance improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, clinical outcomes, and service excellence Utilizes data and analytics to identify trends, inform decision-making, and improve outcomes Patient Experience & Service Excellence Oversees the Patient Experience team and all related functions, including patient relations, service excellence programming, and complaint/grievance management Establishes and drives a comprehensive, organization-wide patient experience strategy Designs, implements, and evaluates patient experience programs to enhance patient- and family-centered care Uses data (e.g., Press Ganey and other feedback mechanisms) to assess performance and drive targeted improvements Ensures patient concerns and complaints are addressed timely, with appropriate escalation, resolution, and reporting Provides coaching and guidance to leaders and staff to translate patient experience goals into actionable behaviors Establishes and reinforces standards of behavior that support a consistent, high-quality patient experience across all settings People, Culture & Engagement Drives employee engagement, retention, and workforce stability across the Nursing Division and Patient Experience team Builds leadership capability through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence aligned with Burke's C.A.R.E.S. philosophy Partners with Human Resources to implement talent strategies, workforce planning, and performance management processes Financial & Resource Management Develops and manages the nursing and patient experience budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational financial goals Monitors labor productivity, staffing efficiency, and resource utilization Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining or enhancing quality and patient experience Magnet & Professional Practice Leads efforts toward Magnet designation, including development and sustainment of professional practice standards Promotes evidence-based practice, clinical education, and professional development Supports nursing research, certification, and continuous learning initiatives Collaboration & System Integration Collaborates with physician leadership, interdisciplinary teams, and administrative partners to ensure coordinated, high-quality, patient-centered care delivery Serves as the nursing and patient experience representative at executive, board, and system-level committees Partners with Montefiore Health System and external stakeholders to advance shared clinical and operational goals Huron Rounding Hold leaders accountable for completing purposeful patient rounding, including patient engagement, issue resolution, and documentation of outcomes. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Nursing turnover and vacancy rates Employee engagement scores (including RN engagement survey results) Patient experience outcomes and metrics Clinical quality indicators (e.g., falls, pressure injuries, infection rates) Time-to-fill for nursing positions Progress toward Magnet designation Budget performance and labor productivity metrics JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education & Experience: Master's degree in Nursing or related field required. Minimum of 5+ years of progressive nursing leadership experience. Rehabilitation and/or acute care experience preferred. Demonstrated success in leading patient experience and service excellence initiatives strongly preferred. Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Demonstrated executive leadership presence with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills in a complex environment. Ability to leverage data and analytics to drive both clinical and patient experience outcomes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High emotional intelligence with the ability to lead culture change and service excellence initiatives. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to work across a multi-site campus and attend occasional off-site meetings. May require availability beyond standard business hours to support operational needs.
