Shape the Future of STEM Education as a Learning Designer!

Are you passionate about creating dynamic learning experiences? Do you thrive on collaborating with educators to create learner-centered experiences? South Dakota Mines is seeking a Learning Designer to join our Office for Teaching and Learning Excellence!

In this vital role, you'll partner with faculty to develop high-quality, engaging courses. Your expertise will be crucial in supporting faculty to ensure our courses meet the highest standards of quality assurance, empowering all students for success.

What You'll Do:

Collaboration and Compliance (50%): Work closely with faculty to design and deliver cutting-edge learning environments. You'll apply best practices, including Quality Matters, Universal Design, and WCAG standards, to guide course development. You'll also help faculty identify relevant Open Educational Resources (OERs) and other instructional technologies that can be embedded within our Learning Management System (LMS).

Training and Empowerment (30%): Develop and deliver impactful training sessions for faculty on online learning pedagogy, effective LMS utilization, and quality assurance frameworks. You'll provide one-on-one support and play a key role in onboarding new faculty to our culture of innovative STEM education.

Innovation and Improvement (20%): Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies, collaborate with faculty to identify solutions to enhance student learning, and continuously refine our course development processes.

We're Looking For Someone With the Following Minimum Qualifications:

Has a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Possesses a strong understanding of Web Accessibility, Instructional Design, and educational practices that serve all learners.

Is experienced with various Learning Management Systems (D2L, Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc.).

Has advanced knowledge of educational software like Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, or similar tools.

Brings 1-3 years of professional experience in designing courses or professional development workshops/trainings.

Has demonstrated experience training and/or mentoring educators in effectively using instructional technology.

Is committed to creating high-quality teaching and learning environments using innovative strategies.

Is an excellent communicator, highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing time effectively and meeting deadlines.

Bonus Points If You Have the Following Preferred Qualifications:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Prior professional experience as an Instructional or Learning Designer.

Experience collaborating with Subject Matter Experts to develop online college courses.

Multimedia skills, including video editing and streaming.

Familiarity with Open Educational Resources (OERs) and Quality Matters.

Experience teaching at the post-secondary level in various modalities.

Project management experience.

Familiarity with STEM disciplines.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time, benefited position, and the employee will be physically located in-person on the campus of South Dakota Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota.

The core operating hours of the University are Monday - Friday, 7:30a - 4:30p (Summer hours are 7:3a - 4p). This is an exempt position and may regularly require hours outside the standard operating hours. Occasional travel may be required locally, regionally, and nationally; advance notice will be provided for such travel.

SALARY RANGE

Anticipated starting salary range: $55,400 - $66,400 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
