Looking for a Director of Clinical Operations

Minimum of Bachelor's Degree required

75% - The position is field based; however, most travel is not expected to be overnight

Salary $120K to $150K Commensurate with experience

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's degree preferred with 15 years' of progressive experience in nurse leadership roles. Current Registered Nurse with a valid state license and eligible to be licensed in the state where practice/consulting occurs. Previous Director of Nursing and operational management experience in Long Term Care required. Consultant experience in the long-term care delivery system demonstrates effective communication, problem solving and decision support through a team collaboration. The incumbent is able to articulate and demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Ingleside Engaged Living and to inspire active support of these in others. Must maintain current certification in American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC). Must maintain CPR certification. QAPI certification required within first six months of employment.

Job Summary:

The Director of Clinical Operations must possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and should be proficient in developing and delivering formal presentations. They must have a strong understanding of computer systems. S/he must possess extensive knowledge of federal, state, and CARF long-term regulations/standards. Additionally, they should have a deep understanding of general management, strategic planning, and marketing principles as they relate to the operation of health care centers. S/he should be highly accountable, responsible, and able to make independent decisions. They must have excellent planning, organizing, developing, implementing, and interpreting abilities for programs, policies, and procedures of the healthcare centers. These include skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse programs. S/he must be willing to seek out and incorporate new methods and principles into existing practices. They must have experience in planning and implementing medium to large-scale projects, new activities, or procedures. S/he must be able to handle issues, concerns, and interpersonal relationships tactfully with employees, residents, family members, government agencies, and the public. They should have specialized training and understanding of Minimum Data Set (MDS) preparation and work collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Operations Informatics. Position oversees the clinical educator position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the Ingleside Engaged Living Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Supports and fosters a person directed philosophy.
  • Sets clinical standards, drives performance improvement standards, and oversees regulatory compliance.
  • Mentor and train Directors of Nursing and other clinical leadership.

Clinical Services

Assists community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), in identifying care processes related to care performance.

  • Coordinates the implementation of clinical policies and procedures with the community health care center teams.
  • Participates in the development revision and implementation of forms/software and other instruments to meet the documentation needs of community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program).
  • Monitors and supports the on-site internal pre-survey process for accreditation, licensure or certification, including assessment and prep activities.
  • Responsible for supporting and monitoring the state/Medicare compliance at all community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), including conducting and coordinating ongoing assessment, consultation and evaluation of elder care outcomes.
  • Supports community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), management teams through problem solving, survey support, corrective action plans, decision support and requests for assistance.
  • Conducts site visits of community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), to assist in the identification, analysis and correction of issues as identified by the community and by data provided by the community.
  • Provides clinical expertise and participates in assessments on corporate development/ operations projects as requested or needed.
  • Reviews on an ongoing basis the elder assessment and care delivery process including documentation.
  • Participates in new startup activities.
  • Develops and oversees competency protocols and methodologies.
  • Maintains up to date CPR certification.

Administrative

Verifies and supports community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), activities in the assessment, care plan, medical records documentation arena, and reimbursement structures.

  • Evaluates analysis of current and ongoing status for reimbursement methods and makes enhancement recommendations.
  • Assists, as requested, in the selection of competent nursing department managers, supervisors, consultants, and other auxiliary personnel.
  • Provides recommendations to community healthcare administrators and department managers concerning the operations of their functional areas to assist in improvement of services.
  • Develops and conducts the orientation program for Directors of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing, MDS Nurses, and Infection Preventionists.
  • Provides operations with a professional services assessment recommending a development plan for enhancing the Director of Nursing's knowledge or competencies to manage the delivery of high-quality care.

Decision Support and Quality Indicator and QAPI Reporting

Provides oversight to the clinical decision support and analysis process.

  • Identifies areas of care and/or clinical operations which need evaluation, measurement or redesign.
  • Evaluates community quality issues and notifies appropriate individuals through verbal and documented means if issues are not resolved in an acceptable time frame to the organization.
  • Oversees the QAPI program and QI status and progress at the community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), to assume effectiveness and charter compliance.
  • Through visits t0 and reviews of, the community healthcare centers, (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory support assisted living, and wellness nurse program), makes recommendations for process improvement as appropriate in all clinical areas to include, but not be limited to nursing services, staff development, social services, activities, integration with nutritional services, medical records, central supply, and integration with environmental services from a clinical perspective.

Clinical Resource Expertise

Actively participates in conference calls and meetings with current information and updates regarding areas of long-term care expertise.

  • Works as a member of the operations team and participates in team meetings, projects and related activities as appropriate.
  • Participates with and makes formal presentations to senior management and other organizational leaders, employee groups and resident groups.
  • Participates in consulting presentations, RFPs, and other consultation activities as appropriate.
  • Represents the company through contributions to journals, conferences, association meetings, and other appropriate organizational activities.
  • Serves as a resource for clinical and best practices and procedures

Staff Development

Assists various operations and functional program areas in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of training and orientation programs to foster the achievement of organizational goals.

  • Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in the long-term care field, as well as to maintain general knowledge of "state of the art" developments in operations, business development, finance and other functional areas.
  • Develop and present continuing education (train-the-trainer, one-on-one, group presentations) internal and external to community teams as appropriate to strive for clinical excellence.
  • Ensures ongoing educational sessions are conducted for multi-disciplinary team members to support clinical service line activities and responsibilities, including teaching and coordinating sessions as required.
  • Identifies and assists in the development of licensed staff competency protocols.
  • Participates in the development and distribution of client/resident education and community education materials as appropriate.
  • Mentor and train Directors of Nursing and other clinical leadership
  • Ensure training programs meet regulatory and accreditation standards
