Responsibilities

Associate Medical Director Responsibilities:
• Performs licensed physician services for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas Family Planning and Preventative Health Services (referred to as PPGT FAMILY PLANNING).
• Physician shall be free to exercise their own independent medical judgment regarding the evaluation and treatment of any particular PPGT patient in accordance with the standards of good medical practice.
• The Associate Medical Director provides technical oversight and leadership for the medical and regulatory aspect of Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas’ (PPGT) Family Planning initiatives in accordance with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) Medical Standards and Guidelines as well as that of all regulatory bodies.
• Provides overall medical direction of family planning services, ensuring that licensed staff provide the highest quality of care to patients.
• Serves as a member of the Clinical Leadership team, together with the Director of Clinical Services and COMSO, aiding in oversight of the overall medical direction of the agency, the quality of patient care, the development and documentation of the organization’s Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs), and clinical oversight of other physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
• Participates in Clinical Core Team meetings and monthly medical service telephone conferences with Health Center staff and Health Services leaders.
• Works closely with Health Services Leadership and Health Center staff to ensure consistent processes across the affiliate.
• Serves as Program Director for Reproductive Health Conditions and Breast-basic.
• Serves as a medical resource and provides medical evaluation and performance feedback for the physicians and APPs within assigned area of responsibility.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing family planning and gender affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) medical services and patient records.
• Performs family planning services including but not limited to: MD clinic, birth control visits, well woman exams, long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) placements, colposcopy, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and other gynecological services.
• Assists in the training, privileging, and continuing education of clinical staff in reproductive health services, including, but not limited to, ultrasound, evaluation and management of pregnancy complications and pregnancies of unknown location, colposcopy, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), GAHT services.
• Works collaboratively to manage budget and ensure the highest quality of medical services and health center processes.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with medical schools and residency programs. Provides education, training and mentoring of medical and nursing trainees on rotation at the affiliate, with academic title at the discretion of such training programs.
• Provides clinical leadership and oversight of research activities of the affiliate, serving as Principal Investigator (PI) when necessary.
• Reviews Quality Assurance program audit results and provide feedback based on audit findings.
• Collaborates with the Sr Vice President of Health Services and Director of Research to develop an annual operating plan for the research program at PPGT.
• Ensures that research grants further the mission of PPGT and have a positive financial impact on the affiliate.
• Obtains approval from COMSO of research opportunities prior to committing to participation.
• Provides prescriptive authority oversight and performs prescriptive authority checks on a monthly basis for assigned Clinicians, including a monthly meeting with clinicians for the purpose of providing supervision of their chart documentation for history and physical exam, Chief Complaint, allergies, appropriate treatment, and medication management.
• Available through direct telecommunication for consultation, patient referral, or assistance with medical emergencies.
• Complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and follow all PPGT policies and procedures adopted in accordance with such laws and regulations.
• Works collaboratively with the COMSO, Sr. VP of Health Services, Director of Clinical Services, Health Services Regional Directors, and Health Center Managers to ensure the highest quality of medical services and health center processes.
• Provides medical consultation and supervision to clinicians regarding the clinical management and treatment of specific patients.
• Provides telephone consultation for after-hours’ and weekend calls on patients as needed.
• Authorized to dispense all required and indicated medications, to provide safe and quality medical care.
• Has unrestricted access to patient protected health information (PHI) on paper and electronic forms health records for purposes of treatment, payment, and/or healthcare operations. The use of a patient’s protected health information should be limited to information needed for the specific task that is being performed or requested by the individual patient. Disclosure of any patient information must be for purposes of treatment, payment or healthcare operation OR must be accompanied by a valid patient authorization. Must adhere to minimum necessary rule.

Qualifications

Possess a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) or Doctorate of Osteopathy (DO) degree, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology or family medicine.

Require physician experience in sexual and reproductive health. Two years medical management experience desired.

Possess a valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas issued by the Texas Medical Board; Board eligible or Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Family Medicine. Possess all appropriate certifications, registrations, and approvals from the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Texas Department of Public Safety and any other applicable federal or state agency necessary to prescribe and dispense drugs under applicable federal and state laws and regulations in each case without restriction. Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary additional certifications in accordance with state, federal and PPFA compliance requirements. Must possess current basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) BLS certification course taught by the either American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). Possess hospital admitting privileges in accordance with applicable regulations.
