Job Description
The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time TH Associate Director of Nursing, Performance Improvement. The successful candidate will:
- Assume leadership of defined clinical areas or administrative areas to provide comprehensive service patients and staff.
- Work closely with director of Nursing and peer Associate Directors in the planning, operation and evaluation of Nursing Department programs in policy formulation and implementation.
- Represent Nursing Administration and Hospital in center-wide management committees
- Determine numbers and levels of staff needed on nursing units and establish and maintain a staffing allocation system.
- Be responsible for the employment, assignment and evaluation of Assistant Nursing Directors and Nurse Administrators.
- Participate with Personnel and Employee Relations as the Principal Nursing Administrator in incident investigations and in the determination of disciplinary action, grievance responses and responses to external regulatory agencies.
- Identify educational needs and participates in providing orientation, in-service, continuing education and special programs for all levels of nursing staff.
- Participate with peers and Director of Nursing in setting Nursing Department goals and in evaluating progress
- Assist in the preparation of annual budget of Nursing and in the planning, implementation and evaluation of changes/needs in Hospital design equipment and supplies for assigned clinical areas.
- Ensure that there are ongoing programs to orient, train and maintain the knowledge base and skills of staff.
- Develop, implement a Quality Assurance program and submits periodic reports to the hospital wide Quality Assurance Committee and the Director of Nursing.
Required Qualifications:
- New York State Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Board Certified (CPHQ) by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (or eligible to obtain within 1-year of employment).
- 5+ years of experience as a Performance Improvement Coordinator/Associate Director.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:00pm (Full-Time)
Salary Grade/Rank:
SL-6
Salary Range:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications
