Medical/Surgical Supervisor (RN)

Wage scale: $41.52 - 65.16 per hour

Essential Functions
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of both the patient and nursing staff.
- Provides orientation, direction, training, educational development, coaching and mentoring to staff in accordance with goals set by department director.
- Assists with competency verification, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Assesses and ensures quality of services delivered. Performs quality assurance studies and assists with the implementation of quality initiatives.
- Assist with quality measures.
- Integrates evidence based practices into operations and protocols.
- Serves as a resource to staff, other departments and external contacts. Leads the handling and resolution of issues and complaints.
- Assist with development of policies.
- Ensures staff compliance with policies, procedures, protocols and regulations.
- Perform timekeeping functions in UKG.
- If needed for staffing purposes, Director may assign Supervisor to work as charge nurse and/or provide patient care. This would include the following:
- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Provides direction and oversight to staff engaged in the mentoring process of nursing students.
- Leads by example.
- Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth, teamwork and
exceptional service.
- The Supervisor role includes duties/tasks assigned by the Director of Acute Care Services including but not limited to timekeeping, scheduling, coaching, corrective action, quality improvement projects, and resolution of issues that may arise

Qualifications and requirements
Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN). Additional requirements include:
- BLS
- ACLS
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
